Osment suffered from alcohol addiction and was involved in a single-driver automobile accident in July 2006. He was sentenced to three probation and 60 hours of alcohol rehabilitation.

Osment was born in Los Angeles, California on April 10, 1988 to Theresa (née Seifert) and Michael Eugene Osmen. His father was a theatre and film actor while his mother was a teacher. Osment was raised as a catholic and his family believed in strict religious values.
Being born in a family with background in acting, Osment developed interest in acting from an early age. His younger sister, Emily Osment, is also an actress.
He completed his schooling at Flintridge Preparatory School in LA Canada, California.
He discontinued his studies after school and pursued his graduation after making his mark as an actor. Osment graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of Arts very late in life (in the year 2011).
During his childhood, he was interested in sports and played football, golf, and basketball.
After starring in Forrest Gump, more opportunities in movies followed in quick succession. He got a minor role in a 1994 movie, Mixed Nuts.

While Forrest Gump launched his movie career, the 1999 psychological thriller ‘The Sixth Sense’ made him a star. He portrayed the role of a psychic child with mysterious powers.
In 2000 and 2001, Osment started contributing his voice to animated movies and TV series. His first voice contribution was to the TV series ‘Family Guy’.
After the recognition he got in ‘The Sixth Sense’, Osment played the role of a child prodigy in many movies like Steven Speilberg’s epic movie ‘A.I. Artificial Intelligence’.
Osment won the Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for his performance in ‘The Sixth Sense’.
Osment was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in ‘The Sixth Sense’. At that time, he was the second-youngest actor to receive a nomination for Academy Award for playing a supporting role.
Osment’s performance in ‘A.I. Artificial Intelligence’ won him the second Saturn Award for Best Younger Actor.
