In 2000, he married the American pop sensation Madonna at a private ceremony that was held at the Skibo Castle in Scotland. The couple was blessed with a son. They also adopted a baby boy. However, the unison did not last long and the two separated in 2008.
He is in a relationship with model Jacqui Ainsley, with whom he has two children.
Guy Stuart Ritchie was born in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England, to a former British Army personnel and advertising executive, Captain John Vivian Ritchie and Amber Parkinson.
He attended the Stanbridge Earls School, a specialised school that taught students with dyslexia in Romsey, Hampshire, from where he was expelled. He later attended the Sibford School in Oxfordshire.
In 1995, he wrote and directed a short twenty minute film titled, ‘The Hard Case’. It was his debut venture and the film had actor Wale Ojo playing the role of a gambler.
In 1998, he directed his first full length feature film titled, ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’, which was a crime horror thriller. The film was well received both commercially and critically and even earned a British Academy Film Award nomination.
In 2000, he wrote and directed the comedy-crime film, ‘Snatch’, which featured an ensemble cast. The film was critically acclaimed and achieved success at the box office.
In 2001, he was the executive producer for the British comedy-drama film titled, ‘Mean Machine’. The film was directed by Barry Skolnick and received negative reviews.
In 2002, he directed the rom-com, ‘Swept Away’, which was remake of Lina Wertm�ller's film of the same title. Much like ‘Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’, the film had a complex storyline and interwoven characters who move in and out of each other’s life.
His 2008 film, ‘RocknRolla’ was a massive box office hit and reached the number one position at the UK box office, within the first week of its release. The film earned a whopping $25,739,015.
His film, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is one of his biggest box office successes that earned an enormous $523,000,000 worldwide. The film was the eighth highest grossing film of 2009.
