Gutierrez attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where he studied theatre. He acted in a lot of school plays before being spotted by a talent agent in one of those plays.
Froy Gutierrez began his career on stage, appearing in the productions of ‘Little Women’ and ‘The Matchmaker’. He also acted in the commercials for AT&T, Hasbro, Boy Scouts of America, Build a Bear, and others. In 2015, he made his screen debut as an actor in a season two episode of Nickelodeon’s comedy series ‘Bella and the Bulldogs’. Portraying Charlie Huggins, he had many scenes with Brec Bassinger, who played the protagonist Bella Dawson in the show. Gutierrez reprised the role in two more episodes of the season, ‘Two Many Dates’ and ‘The Outlaw Bella Dawson’.
Credited as ‘Handsome Ben’, Gutierrez appeared in two episodes of ABC’s sitcom ‘The Goldbergs’ (2016). His next project was Michael Gene Conti’s short film ‘The Halloween Party’ (2017). In Netflix’s critically acclaimed sitcom ‘One Day at a Time’, he portrayed Josh Flores in season one. Josh dated Elena Maria Alvarez (Isabella Gomez) briefly before she came out as a lesbian.
He made his big screen debut in the family film ‘A Cowgirl's Story’ in 2017. That year, he also became a new cast member of MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’. He joined the immensely popular dark fantasy show in its season six as Nolan Holloway, a shy, sensitive human, who, as the season progresses, becomes an ally of the central characters. In 2018, he appeared in an episode of Liza Koshy’s web series ‘’Liza on Demand’.
Gutierrez is also pursuing a parallel career as a musician. Previously, he had done several covers, including that of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’. These days, he is working on his own original music.
Gutierrez is bilingual. Besides English, he is also fluent in Spanish.
