Evan Michael Breen was born on November 7, 1988, in Detroit, Michigan. He initially lived in the city of Grosse Pointe with his family. He has a sister named Kelly. Evan currently lives in Los Angeles.
Evan attended 'Western Michigan University' in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He studied communication for one semester and accounting for the next semester. Evan dropped out in 2010. He played hockey, golf, and baseball in high school.
Evan is proud of being from Detroit. He is extremely attached to his hometown. He believes the people in his hometown are real and do not fake emotions, unlike most people in Los Angeles. Evan is also an ardent animal lover.
Evan began his career in 2011 when he was in university. Back then, he would create content for 'Twitter.' He eventually lost interest in the application. Thus, he decided to quit. Evan also worked as a transporter at 'Beaumont Hospital' in Royal Oak, Michigan. In his final semester, Evan gravitated toward 'Vine.' He was heavily inspired by comedian Chris D’Elia and soon decided to become a "Viner." Evan was in his final semester when he dropped out of university to make a career on 'Vine.' Initially, he struggled a lot with his content. His comic timing was poor and his sketches were not too funny. However, Evan began working on his weak points. Under the guidance of comedian Pete Holmes, Evan’s comedy skills improved a lot. Evan also had a college friend who was very supportive of his unusual career choice. Despite Evan’s poor content, she would always encourage Evan to do better. Also, Evan’s slow pace of talking would remind her of the turtle from the animation movie 'Finding Nemo.' This is how Evan earned his online pseudonym, "LA Turtle."
Soon, Evan bounced back on 'Vine' with more polished skills and content, and the audience liked this. In addition, sketch-comedy and improvisational comedy groups such as 'Upright Citizens Brigade,' 'The Groundlings,' and 'Second City' inspired him a lot. His transformation was a turning point in his career. His cast of characters, offbeat jokes, observational humor, and his magnetic personality did wonders to his 'Vine' career. When Evan earned 70 thousand followers on 'Vine,' he was approached by a Los Angeles-based 'YouTube' and 'Vine' network. He accepted the offer half-heartedly, as he had never been interested in the field of advertisement. However, this offer later proved beneficial to his career.
Evan’s 'Vine' career gained momentum soon after. He earned over a million followers on 'Vine' before the application was taken down. Following this, Evan turned toward 'YouTube,' which gave him more artistic freedom. However, 'Vine' still holds a special place in Evan’s heart. He believes 'Vine' does not give much time to express and perform but is a perfect platform for sketch-comedy artists to showcase their talent.
Evan now posts his sketches on his 'YouTube' channel and 'Instagram' page. The channel has a little over 404 thousand subscribers, while his 'Instagram' posts have earned over 270 thousand followers. Evan is still active on 'Twitter,' where he started his career, and has racked up more than 323 thousand followers.
Evan now works as a producer for a social-media agency and is also involved in networking with production companies and websites such as 'Funny or Die' and 'Super Deluxe Video.' Evan often travels between Michigan and California, maintaining a balance between his comedy-writing projects and his social-media career.
