Ethan Klein

Ethan was born Ethan Edward Klein, on June 24, 1985, in Ventura, California, to an Ashkenazi Jewish couple, Gary and Donna Klein. He is of Jewish and American descent. The late American film and TV producer Leonard Katzman is Ethan’s paternal grandfather.

Ethan attended the 'Buena High School.' He later studied English literature at the 'University of California' and graduated with a BA degree in creative writing. He also earned a place on the 'Dean’s Honor List' when he graduated in 2009.

Ethan suffers from partial Tourette syndrome that causes twitches in his eyebrows. He has often addressed the disorder in his videos. In one of his podcast episodes, Ethan has admitted that he has dyslexia.

Ethan began his career as a marketing executive in Israel. In 2013, he created a few videos for Hila’s college projects and later posted them on his 'YouTube' channel, 'h3h3Productions.' However, the channel was created back in 2011. The videos started gaining popularity, and that made Ethan create more such videos. He, along with his wife, Hila, began creating collaborative videos for the channel. Their content primarily consists of reaction videos and sketch comedies. Of these, Ethan’s reaction videos are the most popular. The video titled 'VAPE NATION' is the most popular reaction video on the channel and has garnered over 20 million views. Their channel has garnered remarkable fame for criticizing certain internet trends, personalities, and a few 'YouTube' policies. The channel has earned over six million subscribers and was named the 'YouTube Channel of the Year' by 'Reddit' in 2016.

In September 2018, Ethan, on behalf of 'h3h3Productions,' released a game on the 'App Store' and 'Google Play.' The game, ‘H3H3: Ball Rider,’ was developed by Canada-based independent video-game development company 'Outerminds.' The game features many of Ethan’s well-known videos. In August 2015, the channel ended its collaboration with 'Collective Digital Studio' and joined the 'YouTube' partnership network 'Freedom!'

Following the super success of their primary channel, Ethan and Hila launched their second collaborative channel in 2013. The channel was initially titled 'h2h2Productions' and has now been renamed ‘Ethan and Hila.’ This channel hosts content that is similar to that of the primary channel and has over two million subscribers.

Ethan has a third ‘YouTube’ channel, 'H3 Podcast.' The channel features live-streams that cover a variety of topics, of which some are controversial. The podcast episodes are usually first streamed live on Ethan’s 'Twitch.tv' channel and then uploaded on the 'YouTube' channel. However, the newer episodes are live-streamed directly on the channel. Most of the podcast episodes feature special guests. However, the 'Top of the Week' (originally 'Top of the Month') segment features only Ethan and Hila. Some of the popular guests who have been interviewed on the podcast are PewDiePie, Philip DeFranco, Jordan Peterson, Justin Roiland, Steve-O, Bob Saget, Ninja, Chris D'Elia, Jake Paul, Bo Burnham, Post Malone, Bill Burr, and Tim Heidecker. The channel has gained more than a million subscribers.

Ethan later launched a separate 'YouTube' channel titled 'H3 Podcast Highlights' to release short clips of the podcasts. Ethan also manages an 'Instagram' profile and a 'Twitter' account on behalf of ‘h3h3Production.' The 'Instagram' page has over a million followers, and the 'Twitter' page has crossed two million followers.

Ethan and Hila were involved in a controversy when a fellow "YouTuber" named Matt Hoss charged them with plagiarism. He accused the "YouTuber" couple of having used a major fraction of one of his videos, without any acknowledgment. He also claimed that the plagiarized content was not relevant to Ethan’s original video. According to Matt, he had initially requested Ethan to remove the plagiarized content from their video but Ethan had refused to comply.

Soon, Ethan and Hila created a 'GoFundMe' page to collect money to fund their legal procedures. They received tremendous support from their fans and ultimately won the legal battle. The victory, in turn, earned them more subscriptions on their channel. Ethan announced the victory on August 23, 2017, through a 'Twitter post.' He also made a video on the victory.

After settling his legal battle against Matt, Ethan contributed to an escrow account named the 'Fair Use Protection Account' (FUPA) to serve the victims of unfair copyright claims. The account helps the victims of unfair copyright claims in their legal battles and also raises funds for their legal procedures.
