She married Mustafa Sandal in 2008. Her husband is a popular Turkish pop singer with over twenty million album sales.
She has two sons - Yaman (born in 2008) and Yavuz (born in 2012). The children speak both Turkish and Bosnian.
Emina Jahović was born on January 1st, 1982 in Novi Pazar, Serbia into a well-off family. Her mother, Senija Jahović, is a pediatrician while her father, Nusret Jahović, was a highly successful and prominent cardiothoracic surgeon.
She is the youngest of three children. Her elder sister, Sabina Jahović, is a child psychiatrist and lives in Belgrade, while her elder brother, Mirsad Türkcan, is the first Turkish basketball player to play in the NBA.
By the age of seven, she attended the ‘Meša Selimović’ primary school in Novi Pazar and also began taking guitar lessons at the ‘Mokranjac Music School’. Apart from music, she developed interest in basketball too as her brother Mirsad excelled in the sport and she began her training in basketball in the 6th grade.
When she was 13, her father passed away and after a couple of years, her mother asked her to stop playing basketball as she was physically weak. In high school, she participated in several performances including ‘Antigone’ and ‘Galeb’. Since some of her theater roles required her to sing, she came to realize that singing was her real passion.
She received her BA in management from the ‘Faculty of Management’ at ‘Braća Karić University’.
Emina Jahović participated in several local and national festivals and these events played an important role in her early music career. This provided her chance to work in close association with reputed composers and managers. Dino Merlin, the famous Bosnian singer-songwriter, musician and producer, released her first album 'Osmi dan' in 2001.
After years of successful festival performances, she released ‘Radije ranije’, her second album in 2005. Her main hit, ‘Da I’ ona zna’ peaked at number one on Bosnia’s charts while in the rest of Europe, the song reached the top ten.
In 2008 she released an English single ‘Exhale’. The song was nominated for "World's Best Song" in Worldsings.com's music competition. The accompanying video for "Exhale" also premiered on the MTV Adria show TOP 20.
In 2009 her music career tasted success with the release of her third album, ‘Vila’. The song, ‘Med’, won the 'Best Song' award in the 1st Balkan Music Awards in which she was nominated for ‘Best Female Performer’ in the Balkans 2009.
From 2010 to 2011, she worked in the television soap opera ‘Lale Devri’ in the lead role. The TV show became very popular and aired in over 30 countries.
Her single ‘Exhale’ helped her become popular in America and Europe. The song was nominated for ‘World’s Best Song’ in Worldsings.com’s competition in 2008. The video also premiered on the ‘MTV Adria’s Top 20’ in Europe. This song propelled her career further and brought more fans to her.
