Dylan Gelula was born on 7 May 1994, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father, Jonathan Gelula was an entrepreneur who owned and operated a wine business while her mother, Karen Gelula was a public prosecutor. Dylan went to Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and remembers spending a very secluded life in school.
She used to miss school frequently that resulted in her repeating an academic session and ultimately she dropped out of school. She currently stays in Los Angeles in the ‘Silver Lake’ locality. She is a strict vegetarian, drinks occasionally, and likes viewing the program, ‘Adventure Time’.
Dylan Gelula’s career as an actress took off very early in her life; she was just 10 when she was selected for a role in the fantasy-horror film, ‘Lady in the Water’. Dylan has confessed to never ever seeing the movie directed by Manoj Night Shyamalan that was commercially released in 2006. She hired a manager when she was studying in sixth grade, who would help her find roles in dramas, television, and movies.
As a 16-year old teenager, she bagged the protagonist role in ‘Recycle Me’, a 14-minute thesis film made for the Columbia University Graduate Film School in 2010. The movie was officially selected for screening at Colorado Environment Film Festival and Yosemite International Film Festival.
Dylan’s New York-based agent made an arrangement for her auditioning for the character of Jean Fondham in the black comedy play, ‘August: Osage County’ endorsed by Arden Theater Company. When she was 17, she dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles on her own.
After shifting to Los Angeles, she took up a job as a waitress in an upscale restaurant in Santa Monica to support herself but was sacked soon after. She also found employment in a charity shop. Gradually, she started receiving offers to act as a guest actor in several TV serials, the notable ones being ‘Are We There Yet?’, ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’ and ‘NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service’. Some of the notable characters that she has played so far are: as Ford in ‘Chasing Life’, as Gretchen in ‘Jennifer Falls’, and as Xanthippe Voorhees in ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’. She has also acted in several episodes of ‘Casual’ and ‘Filthy Preppy Teen$’.
Gelula won widespread acclaim for poignantly enacting the character of Anne in the 2016 romantic drama movie, ‘First Girl I Loved’. She is part of the main cast in the film, ‘Flower’ that premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival where she acts as Kala. She will also be seen performing in the movies, ‘Under the Eiffel Tower’ and ‘Support the Girls’ that are still in the production stage.
