He had an interest in music and drama from a very early age. He used to act in school plays, mostly in lead roles. He also sang and played guitar with local garage bands. Dwight Yoakam had to move to Los Angeles as his songs didn't do too well in his hometown. In 1986, he released his debut studio album ‘Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.’ The album was a hit, with three of its songs standing on the Top 40 of the Hot Country Singles chart of the year.
