Daniel Nicholas Koker II was brought up in Cleveland and Detroit. His father was an official of the Ford Motor company and gifted him a cruiser at the age of eight. Spending a number of his formative years in Motor City ‘Detroit’ and the gift from his father started Danny’s long affair with cars. Initially, he self-taught himself how to restore cars as a hobby, but soon realized that he could turn it into a source of living.
Danny’s family wanted to try out new ventures when he was growing up and they bought the Las Vegas TV channel, ‘Channel 33’. Consequently, he started appearing as the character ‘Count Cool Rider’ and hosted the series ‘Saturday Fright At The Movies’ in 1990. This gave him fame and he started getting recognized by more and more people.
In the meantime, Danny also started taking restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles more seriously. Banking on his new-found fame, he started his own restoration and customization shop ‘Count’s Kustoms’, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The moniker ‘Count’ came from his time on the Channel 33 show. As the business grew, Danny started focusing on the demands of individual customers and making custom hot rods and choppers. Needless to say, the high quality work resulted in a booming business. However, this was not the only success Danny would enjoy.
In 2010, the ‘History’ Channel show ‘Pawn Stars’ became a surprise and massive hit. Danny Koker appeared as himself, the owner of ‘Count’s Kustoms’ on the series many times, to give his expertise on vintage cars and bikes. He did similar cameos in the show ‘American Restoration’ between 2011 and 2014 and soon became a household name.
‘History’ channel realized that there was a chance to capitalize on his huge popularity and in 2012, came up with the series ‘Counting Cars’ focusing on the daily activities at ‘Count’s Kustoms’. The first episode entitled ‘McQueen For A Day’ aired on August 13, 2012. Danny who was already a celebrity car expert by then brought in millions of viewers, making the show a massive hit. The show is currently running in its eighth season and is one of the longest running TV series in the channel’s history.
