Danielle Herington was born on May 26, 1993, in Compton, California. Coming from a working-class family, Herrington had a normal childhood like any other girl. She attended private school which restricted her social life. Until in school, Herrington was studious and focussed primarily on education. She holds a major in psychology. However, since the age of 8, she had decided to become a model. To turn her dreams into reality, Herrington enrolled at the John Casablancas’ modelling school at age 10. Her parents backed her decision and supported and encouraged her all through.
Danielle Herrington’s journey from the-girl-next-door phase in Compton to a supermodel in New York has been truly an inspirational one. Interestingly, Herrington, as early as when she was eight, had decided to make a career as a model. Her skin colour did not obstruct her dream to aspire big for herself and by 10 she had started training as a model. Herrington began modelling at the age of 13. A few projects here and there got her grooved into the act but the breakthrough in her career only happened in 2015 when she got seriously involved in it. In 2016, she moved to Brooklyn, New York aspiring to make it in the cut for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Meanwhile she featured in GQ’s 2016 November edition and starred as a Victoria Secret model. Good luck struck her way and she became one of the selected few who moved to Fiji as a model member of the rookie class for the Swimsuit Issue.
Interestingly, the 2017 Swimsuit issue photo shoot, which took place in Fiji, was her first major photo shoot. Same year, she made her debut as a runway performer for Philipp Plein’s spring show at the New York Fashion Week in September. In February 2018, Herrington was called for a fake photo shoot where her idol Tyra Banks, the first black model to break color barrier, announced the big news to Herrington of her selection as the cover model for Sports Illustrated. With this, Herrington has become the third Black woman to appear on the cover of the Swimsuit issue after Tyra Bank and Beyonce. She has shot the 2018 Swimsuit Issue in Bahamas.
