Cuttino Rashawn Mobley was born on 1st September 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the US. He studied at the Incarnation of Our Lord grade school in Olney, Philadelphia, and later at Cardinal Dougherty High School and Maine Central Institute. After completing his high school education, he went to the University of Rhode Island where he played for the university's team 'Rhode Island Rams'. He graduated in 1998, the same year that he was drafted into the NBA.

Cuttino Mobley initially played college football for the team ‘Rhode Island Rams', which represented the Rhode Island University. His career in the NBA started after he was picked by the Houston Rockets during the 1998 NBA draft. He initially played at the shooting guard position. He soon became known as one of NBA's best scoring backcourts, along with Steve Francis.

Mobley played for the Houston Rockets for six seasons, after which he was traded to the Orlando Magic along with Steve Francis and Kelvin Cato. He played 23 games for the team. Later, along with Michael Bradley, Mobley was traded to the 'Sacramento Kings'. Eventually he joined the Los Angeles Clippers, after signing a five-year US$42 million deal. He gained much prominence for leading the team to the 2006 NBA playoffs. It was the first time since 1997 that the team had made it to the playoffs. It was also the first time since 1976 that they had managed to enter the second round.

In November 2008, he was traded off to the New York Knicks along with Tim Thomas. Shortly after, it was discovered that he was a suffering from a heart condition due to which he might have to end his career with the NBA.

He retired soon due to Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition where a portion of the heart muscle is enlarged, causing functional impairment of the heart. Reggie Lewis and Hank Gathers, the now-deceased former NBA players, had also suffered from this condition. Mobley retired as a member of the New York Knicks even though he had never played even a single game with them.
