He is currently married to Lindsay Czarniak, a former sports journalist for ESPN. The couple met each other on-air when Melvin appeared in Czarniak’s segments on NBC4 in 2008. Sparks flew between the duo, and they got married on October 15, 2011. The couple has two children: Delano Melvin (2014) and Sybil Ann Melvin (2016). Craig Melvin’s career as a journalist flagged off rather early in his life. Even during high school at Columbia High, he worked as the teen reporter for WIS News 10, a local news channel. His industrious spirit and hard work won him an Associated Press award early in his career. This early encouragement instilled a lifelong love for journalism in him. Despite studying Government at Wofford College in Spartanburg, he decided not to pursue politics because it did not interest him. He returned to WIS News after graduating from college in 2001.

He worked as a weekday anchor, a features reporter, and eventually a weekend news anchor. He was popular for the ‘Craig Cam’ live shows and subsequently won an Emmy for his work. He was also named the ‘Best Anchor’ by the South Carolina Broadcaster’s Organization. He left WIS in 2008 and shifted to WRC-TV in Washington as a reporter and anchor for the next three years. During this time, he was the anchor for many weekend broadcasts.

In 2011, he earned his big break and joined MNSBC as Dayside Anchor and relocated to New York City. Since 2011, he has worked as an anchor and co-host for MSNBC Live weekend and MSNBC Live. Concurrently, he is also a part of NBC News. He initially started working as a news correspondent for NBC news in 2012 and later became an anchor. His most popular show for NBC News was ‘Weekend Today’ where he was the co-anchor from 2015 to 2018. He has also appeared as a correspondent on ‘Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly’ and is a contributing anchor for ‘Dateline NBC’. In August 2018, he was named the co-anchor of NBC’s ‘Today’.
