Chyler Leigh was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on 10th April 1982. Her mother's name is Yvonne Norton and her father is Robert Potts. Her parents ran a weight-loss business in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where Leigh grew up. Her parents divorced when she was twelve, after which Leigh along with her brother and mother moved to Miami. Shortly after, her mother got remarried to her first husband.

She started modeling when she was in eighth grade. She also started appearing in television commercials and acted in a teen news show 'Hall Pass'. Later, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother in order to pursue an acting career.

Chyler Leigh made her film debut in 1997 with a main role in 'Kickboxing Academy'. She also started appearing as a host on TV shows.
