Chloe Kim was born on April 23, 2000, in Longbeach, California. She spent much of her growing up years in Torrance. Kim’s parents are traditionally from South Korea but have been settled in America since long, which makes Chloe Kim a first generation Korean American. Chloe Kim is a trilingual, fluent in Korean, English and French. She studied at the Mammoth High School. She loves animals and is currently learning acoustic guitar as well.

Personal Life

Chloe Kim’s brush with limelight and stardom may have soared high ever since the Winter Olympics of 2018 but her journey as a sports star has been a long enduring one. From being an amateur snowboarder to an Olympic gold medallist, Chloe’s sporting career surely reflects her hard work and perseverance. She was four when she was first handed a snowboard and by ten, started training at Mammoth Mountain. It was in 2013 that Kim finally joined up with US Snowboarding. In 2014, Kim was too young to compete in the Sochi Winter Olympics. Nevertheless, she competed in the 2014 Winter X Games a earning Gold. The victory made her the youngest gold medallist, at 14 years of age.

2015-2016 season was a golden period for Kim’s sporting career, literally as well. To start with, she won two gold medals at an X Games, thus becoming the first person to win back-to-back gold medals. Same year, she won yet another record, becoming the first woman to land back-to-back 1080 spins in US Snowboarding Grand Prix competition. She scored a perfect 100 points, and is believed to be the second rider ever to do so, after Shaun White.

Having had a terrific year career wise, expectations were sky high from Chloe Kim who was making her debut at Winter Youth Olympics 2016. With all her hard work and perseverance by her side, Chloe’s performance was truly exceptional. She broke yet another record by becoming the first American woman to win two gold medals in snowboarding at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Furthermore, she earned the highest snowboarding score in Youth Olympic Games history at the time. Her outstanding performance earned her a place as the Team USA’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games, thus becoming the first snowboarder chosen to serve as flag bearer for Team USA at either the Olympic Winter Games or Youth Olympic Games.

In 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Chloe Kim won the gold in the Women's Halfpipe finals. The moment was a historic one for her as well as an emotionally heartening one as she won gold for USA in the country from where her parents emigrated from. Interestingly, her extended family still live in South Korea and were present during her momentous win.
