Charlie Schlatter’s first ever appearance in the show business came in 1988 after one of the casting directors of the film ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ had spotted him a year before in a performance and encouraged him to go for an audition. He played the character of ‘Michael’, the younger brother of the male protagonist in the film. Later that year he appeared in the film ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and played the character of ‘Johnny Wolfe,’ the man who kidnapped Elvis Presley to impress his mother in the film.

He then worked in his most important film till date, the comedy ‘18 Again!’, directed by Paul Flaherty in which he played the character of ‘David Watson / Jack Watson’. In this film, he showcased his brilliant acting skills which earned him a lot of praise from the critics. In the early 1990s, he landed his first television role, portraying the title character in the American sitcom ‘Ferris Bueller’. In this series, he appeared alongside Jennifer Aniston.

After making some appearances in films and television movies, Schlatter was signed for the role of ‘Dr. Jesse Travis’ in ‘Diagnosis: Murder’, an American comedy/mystery/medical crime drama television series created by Joyce Burditt. He appeared on the show for six seasons and acted alongside the legendary singer, actor, and dancer, Dick Van Dyke with whom he later became good friends. In the next phase of his acting career, he appeared in several television shows and films including ‘Ed’ in 1996, ‘White Rush’ in 2003, ‘Resurrection Mary’ in 2007, ‘Goliath’ in 2016, and ‘Feud’ in 2017.
