Charlie Ross Heaton was born on February 6, 1994 in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. He has an older sister named Levi, who also went on to become an actress. When he was 16 years old, he moved to London to be with his father.
He has been linked with his onscreen romance Natalia Dyer since the two began appearing together on 'Stranger Things'. The two first sparked rumors of dating after they were spotted cozying up at Los Angeles International Airport in January 2017. The previously low-key couple subsequently became more comfortable in public display of affection; first in Paris and then in London while she attended his drumming gig – both in November. In December 2017, the two made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 'Fashion Awards' at Royal Albert Hall in London. It was followed by another appearance together at the Burberry X Cara Delevingne Christmas. Following her 21st birthday in January 2018, he also shared well-wished on social media. At the 'SAG Awards' in late January, his girlfriend finally opened up about their relationship and how it is to work with her boyfriend, stating that while there are "pros and cons" to it, "It’s a lot of fun" too. On January 24, 2018 they walked the red carpet side-by-side at the National Television Awards at London’s O2 Arena, and also presented an award together.
Charlie Heaton began his career as a musician after relocating to London at the age of 16. He became the drummer of the noise-rock band Comanechi and worked on their second album. He also went on a world tour with the band for almost 18 months. During this time, he had to struggle to pay his bills, and his sister suggested that he signs up with a commercial talent agency for some extra gigs. His first job from the agency was an eight-minute story-driven commercial for a Swiss insurance company.
His debut as an actor was in the role of Gary McCready in the ITV crime drama series 'DCI Banks' in 2015. The same year, he appeared in the British crime drama series 'Vera' and the medical drama series 'Casualty'. He decided to move to Los Angeles for the pilot season and funded his journey by working in a bar. Within three months, he got signed with Alex Yarosh at The Gersh Agency and bagged a role in the 2016 psychological thriller 'Shut In', in which he co-starred alongside Naomi Watts and Oliver Platt. It was followed by a starring role in the Sundance Jury Award-winning drama film 'As You Are'. However, the biggest breakthrough of his career came after he was cast as Jonathan Byers in the Netflix series 'Stranger Things'.
In late October 2017, Charlie Heaton missed a 'Stranger Things 2' launch party in the US after he was reportedly stopped by security officials at Los Angeles airport who found traces of cocaine in his bag. He was denied entry into the country and instead of being arrested, was sent back to London. However, he has denied accusations of being busted for cocaine.
Soon after, it was revealed that he had a three-year-old love-child with his former band-mate Akiko Matsuura, who was a drummer and vocalist for Comanechi. The two met when both of them were teenagers, and he reportedly fell head over heels in love with her. In May 2014, he became a father at the age of 20 after his then-girlfriend gave birth to a boy named Archie. The two later separated, but stayed amicable because of their son. Due to his exceedingly busy schedule, he rarely gets to visit his son, who lives back in London with his mother. However, he is eager to spend more time with his son.
