Casey Johnson was born on May 1, 1995 in London, England. He was raised along with his older brother, Chet Johnson (born June 10, 1990). Chet became famous for appearing in the season four of MTV UK’s reality series ‘Ex on the Beach’.
Johnson first met singer Betsy-Blue English in 2014 when they were both contestants on the 11th season of ‘The X Factor UK’. She was appearing on the show as a member of the pop group Only the Young. They made it to the seventh week before getting eliminated.
Johnson and English began dating after they worked together in ‘Stage School’. During their relationship that lasted about two years, they had several problems. It was reported that Chet did not like his brother’s new girlfriend and felt that she was too controlling. The dislike might have been mutual as English reportedly had her issues with Chet as well. By January 2017, both Casey and English had realized they were having serious problems. However, they still hoped that they would manage to work things out.
Casey Johnson first garnered media attention as a contestant on the 11th season of ITV’s reality television music competition series ‘The X Factor UK’. During his audition, he performed the cover of Olly Murs' song ‘Please Don't Let Me Go’. While it was a successful audition, he was eliminated in the bootcamp round, the very next stage after the audition round. However, the judges still felt that they would be able to work with him. As a result, he and other eliminated male contestants like him were put in a group together which was later named Stereo Kicks. The other original members of the group were James Graham, Jake Sims, Chris Leonard, Charlie Jones, Barclay Beales, Reece Bibby, and Tom Mann. The group achieved considerable success in the competition, finishing it at the fifth place. On June 21, 2015, they put out their debut single, ‘Love Me So’. Despite the song gaining some traction and reaching the number 31 spot on the UK Singles Chart, the group did not manage to land a record deal. They subsequently disbanded sometime in July that year.
In 2016, Johnson joined the group Union J. The group had been originally formed in 2011 with Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett, and Jaymi Hensley. They were known as Triple J at the time. In May 2012, the group auditioned for the ninth edition of ‘The X Factor UK’ and at the judges’ request, fellow contestant George Shelley was included in the group. They eventually finished fourth in the competition. Johnson joined the group following Shelley’s departure in 2016. He was with them for about 12 months and accompanied them on various tours. However, by April 2017, a new management team had gained control of the group and they felt that he did not fit the image the group was trying to convey. As a result, he left the group and chose to focus on a career on television. Johnson has since appeared in E4’s reality series ‘Stage School’ and the documentary ‘When Kids TV Goes Horribly Wrong’.
