On 15 August 2013, Calum Scott won a local talent competition show Mail's Star Search. After winning the competition, he joined a Maroon 5 tribute band called the Maroon 4. With the band, he went on to tour around the United Kingdom. In the year 2014, Scott formed an electronic duo with John McIntyre. They released their debut single titled "Girl (You're Beautiful)" in June that year.

Then in 2015, Scott participated in season 9 of ‘Britain's Got Talent’ but he did not win the competition. A year later, he released his cover of "Dancing on My Own". In September that year, the British singer, along with recording artist Ivete Sangalo, released the promotional single titled "Transformar" as the official theme song of the 2016 Summer Paralympics Games.

In 2017, Scott toured the US and also went on to release his single "You Are the Reason". The same year, he started working on his debut album titled ‘Only Human’ which was released in March 2018.
