Billy Crudup was born as William Gaither Crudup on July 8, 1968 in Manhasset, New York, U.S.A, to parents Georgann and Thomas Henry Crudup III. He studied at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and later on attended University of North Carolina. Crudup then learnt acting from Tisch School of the Arts and earned his Master of Fine Arts degree. Coming to the actor’s love life, he started dating actress Mary-Louise Parker in 1996. She gave birth to his son, William Atticus Parker, in 2004. Crudup left Parker while she was pregnant and started dating actress Claire Danes. He broke up with her four years later.

Billy Crudup first appeared on the big screen in 1996, in the flick ‘Sleepers’. He then appeared in ‘Everyone Says I Love You’, ‘Inventing the Abbotts’, ‘Without Limits’ and ‘The Hi-Lo Country’. The actor’s first role in an animated movie came in 1999 when he became a part of ‘Princess Mononoke’. After this, he was cast in the movie ‘Jesus' Son’. From 2000 to 2010, Crudup did numerous big screen projects such as ‘Waking the Dead’, ‘Almost Famous’, ‘Charlotte Gray’, ‘Big Fish’, ‘Stage Beauty’, ‘Mission: Impossible III’, ‘The Good Shepherd’, ‘Pretty Bird’, ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Eat Pray Love’, to name a few.

Billy Crudup made his debut in theatre in the 1994 play ‘America Dreaming’. He then appeared in the play ‘Arcadia’ that was staged at the Lincoln Center Theatre. After this, he did the plays ‘Bus Stop’ and ‘The Three Sisters’. In 2001, the actor became a part of the play ‘Measure for Measure’. A year later, he portrayed the character of John Merrick in ‘The Elephant Man’. He then appeared as Katurian in the 2005 play ‘The Pillowman’. The following year, he was cast in ‘The Coast of Utopia: Part 1 – Voyage’. Then in 2011, Crudup once again joined the team of ‘Arcadia’. Two years later, he went on to do the play ‘Waiting for Godot’.


From 1998 to 2005, Billy Crudup served as the narrator for ‘Priceless’ TV ads for MasterCard. In 2009, he appeared in the parody video titled ‘The Ballad of G.I. Joe’. Then the actor narrated a 5-part TV series on the first stage of renovation of the Madison Square Garden.
