Baekhyun has earned a dan 3 belt in the Korean martial art Hapkido. He loves animals and has a dog named Mongryoung. However, he is not too fond of the outdoors and prefers playing video games instead.
He attends online classes on culture and arts provided by the ‘Kyung Hee Cyber University.’
He dated Kim Tae-yeon of the band ‘Girl’s Generation’ from 2014 to 2015, but the couple broke up later. He is currently believed to be single.
Byun Baek-hyun was born on May 6, 1992, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He has an elder brother named Byun Baek-beom.
He was influenced by South Korean singer, actor, and music producer Jung Ji-hoon, better known as “Rain,” and started taking music lessons at the age of 11. He learnt the piano from Kim Hyun-woo, a member of the South Korean rock band ‘DickPunks.’
He studied at ‘Jungwon High School’ in Bucheon and was the lead singer of the band ‘Honsusangtae.’ The band won a local music festival during his school days. He was discovered by ‘SM Entertainment’ while he was preparing for the ‘Seoul Institute of the Arts’ entrance exams and later joined ‘SM Entertainment’ in 2011 after an audition.
He became the ninth member of the South Korean–Chinese boy band ‘Exo’ in January 2012 and started performing as their lead singer. The band soon gained popularity, and this proved to be a stepping stone for Baekhyun.
By 2014, he became a regular host of the ‘SBS’ show ‘Inkigayo,’ along with his ‘Exo’ partner Suho. By the end of the year, he quit the show to concentrate on his band.
In July 2014, he made his musical theater debut with his portrayal of ‘Don Lockwood’ in the South Korean version of the musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ produced by ‘SM Culture & Contents.’
In April 2015, he released his debut solo single, ‘Beautiful,’ as the soundtrack of the web-drama series ‘Exo Next Door.’ It became the first song from a web drama to top the digital charts.
In December 2015, he performed the number ‘Like Rain Like Music’ at the ‘SBS’ annual music program as a tribute to the original singer of the track, the late Kim Hyun-sik. The song was subsequently recorded and released digitally.
His hit singles include ‘My Turn to Cry’ (2014), ‘Like Rain, Like Music’ (2015), and ‘Take You Home’ (2017).
His most popular collaborations have been ‘The Day We Met’ (2015), ‘One Dream One Korea’ (2015), ‘Dream’ (2016), ‘The Day’ (2016), ‘Rain’ (2017), and ‘Young’ (2018).
He has also appeared in the TV series ‘To the Beautiful You’ (2012), ‘Exo Next Door’ (2015), and ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ (2016).
He co-hosted the TV show ‘Inkigayo’ in 2014 and appeared in a recurring role in ‘Master Key’ in 2017.
He played the lead role in the play ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ in 2014.
