Ato Essandoh was born on July 29, 1972 in Schenectady, New York to parents who hailed from Ghana. He studied at New Rochelle High School and graduated from there in the year 1990. He then attended the Cornell University, earning his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Currently, Essandoh is a member of the University’s Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and also the Irving Literary Society.
