Arpad Busson was born on 27 January 1963 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, to Florence Harcourt-Smith and Pascal Busson. Coming to his love life, Busson started dating Australian model Elle Macpherson in 1996. The couple lived together with their kids, Arpad Flynn Busson and Aurelius Cy Andrea Busson, until 2005.
After this, the French financier started a relationship with actress Uma Thurman in 2007. The couple announced their engagement in 2008 but ended it a year later. However, they reconciled later on and had a daughter, Luna, in 2012. Then again in 2014, the couple broke up. Later on in 2017, Busson and Thurman fought over the custody of their daughter. In the end, Thurman obtained the child’s primary physical custody.
In 1986, Busson entered the world of hedge funds and began working with Dubin Swieca. He then went on to become a marketing agent for Paul Tudor Jones's Tudor Investments. In the year 1991, he founded the EIM Group. Then in 2013, the French financier merged the company with the Swiss listed investment company named Gottex Fund Management Holdings. Two years later, Busson became the next executive chairman of Gottex for the interim, following Joachim Gottschalk’s exit from the position.
Arpad Busson is a founding trustee of the children's charity Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) and also serves as the chairman of the organization’s board of directors. In the past, he had also served as the chairman of the organization. However, he stepped down from the position in the year 2009 but remains a part of the board as well as the chairman of ARK US. ARK is known for helping kids who are victims of poverty, abuse, disability, and illness.
ARK finances projects aimed at changing the lives of underprivileged kids in the UK, Eastern Europe, and South Africa through education and healthcare. Busson is also the founding member of the Theodora Children's Trust – a charity that brings music, laughter, and magic to kids in hospitals through visits from special performers called "Giggle Doctors". Besides these, Busson is a patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
