Arlene Silver

Arlene Silver was a professional makeup artist who had worked in a number of films including ‘Carolina’, ‘The Caretaker 3D’ and ‘The Men of Delta Farce Salute the Troops’ but gained fame as the second wife of Dick Van Dyke. Despite being almost half the age of Dick, at the time of marriage, the two tied the nuptials. As per them, Dyke and Silver first met at the 2006 SAG Awards dinner. Instantly captivated by her charm and charisma, Dyke walked over and introduced himself to her. At the ‘Oprah Show: Where They Are Now?’, Dyke confessed to have never approached a strange woman in his life. Interestingly, though Silver recognized him as the star from ‘Mary Poppins’, she knew not much about him.

In order to get closer to her Dyke appointed Silver as his makeup artist. The two became friends and eventually the relationship moved to a different level. After six years of courtship, both of them decided to get married. The 46-year age difference mattered little to them as Dyke jokingly called her as his ‘child bride’. He called the decision ‘one of the smartest moves he has ever made’. The two eventually married on the leap day, i.e. February 29, 2012 in a small ceremony in Malibu chapel.

Arlene Silver was born on September 21, 1971 in New York, USA. She spent most of her growing up years in Bronx before moving to California where she completed her college. Silver worked as a makeup artist before she met Dyke. They were in a relationship for six years before they decided to get married. They got married on 29 February 2012. Though they were deeply in love, their age difference gained them much public attention.

Currently, Silver and Van Dyke are working on a show about their marriage and home life. Though it is not a reality show, the couple sometimes allow camera crews to film them at home. The show originally intended to showcase Dick’s life has turned into becoming a portrait of their unusual relationship that proves that love is ageless.
