Anjulie Persaud

Anjulie Persaud was born on May 21, 1983, in Oakville, Ontario, to Indo-Guyanese parents. Her grandparents had migrated from India to Guyana. She is the youngest of four children of her parents. As a little child, she listened to calypso and reggae music that her parents played in the house. She studied at St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School where she had difficulty fitting in because of her 'racial ambiguity'. She told in an interview that her heritage inspires her.

While growing up, Anjulie Persaud could not mix freely either with the black or white kids in school, and would often spend time alone and write. It was during this time that she determined to carve out her own niche. She was inspired to pursue a music career after watching Janet Jackson perform during her 'Velvet Rope Tour' in 1998 and began composing music when she was 17. She learned to sing and to play the guitar as well.

In 2005, she contributed background vocals and played percussion for the soundtrack album 'Unfabulous and More' by Emma Roberts, and also wrote the song 'Say Goodbye to Jr. High'. She went on to write three songs for Canadian musician Kreesha Turner's 2008 album 'Passion', including the single 'Don't Call Me Baby'. In 2009, she earned media attention as an opening act for Jesse McCartney during his United States tour. In August that year, she released her self-titled debut studio album, co-written and produced by Jon Levine of 'The Philosopher Kings'. While the album peaked at No.108 on the 'US Billboard 200' chart, the single 'Boom' from the album reached the top of the 'US Hot Dance Club Songs' chart.

In 2011, she released her most popular single, 'Brand New Bitch' (also also known as 'Brand New Chick'), which reached No.16 in Canada and earned platinum certification with over 80k sales.

Anjulie Persaud's debut album consisted of three singles, 'Boom', 'Love Songs' and 'Rain', which were all supported by music videos. She next released the single 'Addicted2Me' and its music video in 2010. The following year, she achieved major success with the single 'Brand New Bitch'. In 2012, she released the singles 'Headphones' and 'You and I', and went on her first headlining tour, 'You and I Tour', in support of her new song. Also that year, she co-wrote the Nicki Minaj and Cassie single 'The Boys', which peaked at No.44 on the 'Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs' chart. Her song 'Behind the Music' was covered by Cher Lloyd for her 2012 album 'Sticks and Stones'. After Universal Republic Records went defunct in 2012, she moved to Republic. Recently, she released the songs 'Falling in Love Again' (2015), 'Emotional' (2017), and 'Where the Love Goes' featuring Oskar Flood (2018). She has been featured on songs by artists like Vinai, Cash Cash, TheFatRat and Classified and has toured with Shwayze, Bobby Ray aka B.o.B., Raphael Saadiq. She also opened for Canadian pop rock band 'Hedley'.

Anjulie Persaud was first spotted with Bill Maher, 27 years older than her, in 2014. She subsequently vacationed with him on a beach in Hawaii in January 2015. The couple immediately grabbed eyeballs due to their huge age gap. Maher, a "confirmed bachelor, and a very public one at that", has previously dated former Playboy model and flight attendant Coco Johnsen; author and former hip-hop model Karrine Steffans; and science communicator, journalist, television host, and podcaster Cara Santa Maria. Based on his relationship history, it can be said that he is not interested in marriage.
