Angela Simmons was born on September 18, 1987, in Queens, New York. Her father Joseph Simmons, a.k.a. Rev Run, is a former rapper and hip-hop music pioneer who was one of the founding members of Run–D.M.C. After divorcing her mother Valerie Vaughn, her father got married to Justine Simmons. She has one older sister Vanessa, one younger brother Joseph "Jojo" Simmons Jr, and four younger half siblings, Daniel "Diggy" Simmons III, Russell "Russy" Simmons II, Victoria Anne Simmons and Miley Justine Simmons. Her parents adopted Miley after Victoria died shortly after her birth due to a birth defect. She attended High School of Fashion Industries and then Fashion Institute of Technology, but dropped out after one year to pursue a career in business. She comes from a devout Christian family.
Born into the first family of hip-hop music, Angela Simmons was no stranger to public attention even before she became a successful entrepreneur. However, she gained unprecedented exposure after she started to appear on her family's reality television series ‘Run's House’, in 2005. In 2006, she became the editor of the mini-magazine ‘Angela's Rundown’, which was distributed along with the ‘Word Up!’ magazine. It was a fashion magazine for teenagers, featuring articles on topics including style, music and more. It also contained detailed interviews of "ugly duckling" celebrities. She continued with the magazine till ‘Word Up!’ stopped publishing in April 2012. Back in 2007, Angela, who had studied fashion in college, launched a footwear line, ‘Pastry Footwear’, along with her older sister Vanessa. While her business ventures would eventually become her priorities, she returned to reality shows in 2009 to appear alongside her older sister in ‘Daddy's Girls’. Later, she launched her own fashion accessories line and opened up ecommerce websites. She continued to appear on a number of reality shows and television series, including ‘Fashion News Live’ (2008-2014), ‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ (2016) and ‘The Real’ (2016).
Emerging from her famous father's shadows, Angela Simmons has already established her own brand with her fashion products as well as her acting ventures. While she can sometimes be seen using her reality TV platform to promote her products, she also uses her celebrity status to raise awareness on various charitable causes, such as animal welfare or child education and wellbeing. Angela, who was inspired by her uncle Russell Simmons to go vegetarian, is now a spokesperson for PETA, urging her followers not only to stop eating meat, but also to stop using products made from animals. In fact, her own clothing line, Foofi and Bella, offers an alternative to products made from furs. She is also an ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network, helping in the uplifting and empowerment of young people. Moreover, through her official website, AngelaIAM.com, she provides emerging talents in the fashion industry with a platform to showcase their creativity and inspires them to start their own businesses.
Angela Simmons was in a relationship with rapper, Skillz, between 2009 and 2010, but many of her fans were upset about the fact that she was dating someone outside her own race. She even made a statement addressing the issue. She later started dating Romeo Miller, and starred alongside him in the reality show ‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ for which she was the executive producer. She eventually distanced herself from him emotionally, even though they continued to be friends. It was later revealed that she was in a relationship with Sutton Tennyson. She has been secretive about the affair and even avoided mentioning her fiancé's name when she showed her engagement ring to her social media fans in April 2016. It has been speculated that she kept the relationship under wraps due to his past criminal records. In September that year, she gave birth to their baby boy Sutton Joseph Tennyson.
