Ana Cabrera was born on May 13, 1982 in Denver, Colorado, USA, to Judith and Ronald Cabrera. She has four siblings, namely John, Matthew, Nathan, and Angelina. She graduated from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at the Washington State University with degrees in Foreign Languages and Cultures and Communication.

Ana Cabrera started her career as an intern for NBC affiliate KHQ-TV and ABC affiliate KMGH-TV. At KMGH-TV, she covered local and national news including the 2012 Denver Presidential Debate and the Aurora movie theatre shooting. From 2005 to 2009, she served as a reporter and anchor for NBC affiliate KHQ-TV as well as FOX affiliate KAYU-TV.
In 2013, Cabrera joined CNN as a correspondent. Then she became a part of the CNN Investigative team. Since joining the network, the American journalist has reported on several major issues including Colorado's legalization of marijuana for recreational use and the Arapahoe High School shooting. She also reported on the September 2013 floods.
In the year 2014, Cabrera reported on the undocumented kids who crossed the border unaccompanied. Besides these, she reported on the death of an unarmed teen Michael Brown from Ferguson. At present, Cabrera is a part of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Mi Casa Resource Center. Previously, she had also served on the board of American Cancer Society.
