Amy Spanger was born on August 23, 1971 in Newbury, Massachusetts. She completed her education from Triton Regional High School in Byfield, Massachusetts and graduated in 1989. Not much is known about her family background.
Amy Spanger tied the nuptial knot with Michael C Hall on May 1, 2002. The two worked on ‘Chicago’, a Broadway musical together right after their wedding. However, things did not go well between Hall and Spanger for long and they separated in 2005. Following year, they filed for the divorce.
In 2011, love struck Spanger yet again and she walked the aisle and took marital vows with Brian Shepard on September 4, 2011.
Amy Spanger may be a renowned name today in Broadway and television but having said that, the lady has worked very hard to achieve the success that she is enjoying today. An inherent passion for acting and music helped Spanger set forth on a journey to make a space of her own in the entertainment industry. After a six-months pre-Broadway national tour of Jekyll & Hyde, Spanger’s big ticket to success came when she made her Broadway debut in 1995 for the musical ‘Sunset Boulevard’. Next, she was cast as Lois Lane (Bianca) in the Broadway revival of ‘Kiss Me, Kate’.
Other than Broadway, Spanger also appeared in the national touring companies of Rent and Chicago. She essayed the role of Susan in Jonathan Larson’s off-Broadway production musical tick, ‘tick... BOOM!’. She also starred in ‘Lunch’ and ‘Feeling Electric’. Spanger shared screen space with her husband Hall for the Broadway musical ‘Chicago’, playing Roxie Hart. Later, in 2006, she capped the role of Holly in ‘The Wedding Singer’. Interestingly, Spanger originated the role of Sherrie in the Broadway musical ‘Rock of Ages’ but in June 2006 took an extended leave from the production to give herself vocal rest.
However, by the end of the month, she permanently left the production. Apart from theatre, Spanger has worked for several television shows including ‘Ed’, ‘Becker’, ‘Egg: The Arts Show’, ‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Law And Order: SVU’, ‘Michael and Michael Have Issues’, and ‘Bored to Death’. Her work around this time also includes a role in Charlie Kaufman’s film ‘Synecdoche, New York’. She also did a television film ‘Reefer madness’. In 2010-11, Spanger played Jovie for the stage musical adaption of Will Ferrell’s Christmas comedy ‘Elf’. The show ran on Broadway for nine weeks. Her most recent outing has been as Mrs Wormwood for the Broadway show ‘Matilda the Musical’.
