She married Will Arnett on August 29, 2003, with whom she has starred in ‘Arrested Development’, ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’ and ‘Blades of Glory’. They were blessed with their first child in 2008.
In 2010, she gave birth to their second child. Just two years later, the couple announced that they were going to split.
She is a staunch feminist, which is clearly evident in her humor.
Amy Meredith Poehler was born to William Grinstead Poehler and Eileen Frances, who were both high school teachers, in Newton, Massachusetts. She was raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1989.
She studied at Boston College, where she became a member of the improvisation troupe, ‘My Mother’s Fleabag’. She graduated from the university in 1993, with a bachelor’s degree in media and communications.
She then moved to Chicago city, where she joined the theater group, ‘Second City’ and the ‘ImprovOlympic’ group. She became friends with Ian Roberts and Matt Besser with whom she performed ‘improv’. Later, they moved to New York City in 1996.
Together with Ian Roberts and Matt Besser, she scored regular gigs on the popular show ‘Late Night with Conan O’ Brien’. In 1998, the trio debuted in Comedy Central with half-hour sketch comedies.
Poehler was taken aboard the ‘Saturday Night Live’ crew in the 2001-2002 season and soon after she started gaining popularity and was promoted to a full cast member in the first season itself.
In 2004, she appeared in the film, ‘Mean Girls’, playing the role of the mother of Rachel McAdams, who in reality, is only a few years younger to Poehler herself.
In the 2004-2005 seasons, she co-anchored ‘Weekend Update’ with her friend, Tina Fey. After Fey left the show, Poehler co-hosted the show along with Seth Meyers.
She appeared with her husband, Will Arnett, in the series, ‘Arrested Development’ and then appeared as brother-sister skating duo in the 2007 film, ‘Blades of Glory’.
She appeared as a full member of the hit NBC show, ‘Saturday Night Live’ from 2001 to 2008. Through the seasons, she has played notable characters on the show including ‘Amber’, a hypoglycemic reality show opponent, her spoof on the presidential elections as ‘Hilary Clinton’ and ‘Zoe Anderton’, a Spy Glass co-host, who is palpably in love with David Beckham. Her wry humor combined with her on-stage gimmicks has made her one of the most popular personalities on Saturday Night Live in her 138 shows.
