Amina Pankey, also known as Amina Buddafly and Amina Schmahl, was born on April 18, 1983 in Hamburg, Germany. Raised in a musically inclined family, she has two sisters, Sophie and Jazz (the other two members of the group, Black Buddafly). Coming to her love life, she is married to former rapper Peter Gunz. Together, the couple has a daughter, Cori.
Amina Pankey started singing before she could actually talk! Her father and mother, who are avid music lovers, encouraged her to pursue music from childhood. At age six, Pankey joined a classical choir and started doing musicals. She also began touring with gospel groups and pop acts as a young girl. At the age of 13, she started song-writing. Then in 1997, she, along with sisters, Sophie and Jazz, signed their first contract with BMG Germany and released a song named ‘Choyce’. Somewhere around this time, the sisters formed the group, the ‘Black Buddafly.’ Later on, after working with a few German labels and production companies, the three sisters flew to New York City.
Pankey started learning piano and this ultimately made her singing better and song-writing more sophisticated. She then released her EP, ‘I AM Part 1’in 2013. Later on, after ‘Black Buddafly’ went into a hiatus, the singer launched her solo career on reality television through the Vh1 series ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York’. Over her career so far, Amina Pankey has sung numerous songs, such as ‘Could It Be I'm Falling’, ‘Eyes Don't Lie’, ‘My Love's Right Here’, ‘Goodbye’, ‘Love Letter’, ‘Nothing But A Heartbreaker’ and ‘Step Up Your Game’, to name a few. Her repertoire also has over four hundred songs that she has written herself.
