Ahmet has three siblings namely Dweezil, Moon, and Diva. While Moon and Diva also entered into the field of acting just like their brother, Dweezil ventured into music like their father Frank Zappa. Ahmet and Dweezil have composed several songs, and released albums together.
Ahmet got married to popular American television and movie actress Selma Blair in 2004. The ceremony was held at the residence of famous Hollywood actress Carrie Fischer. However, the couple got divorced two years later.
Currently, Ahmet is married to designer Shana Muldoon. He and Shana had a baby girl in 2011, who has been named Violetta Zappa.
Ahmet was born on 15 May 1974 to Frank Zappa and Gail Zappa at the plush Hollywood hills area of Los Angeles. His original name is Ahmet Emuukha Rodan Zappa. While Ahmet’s father Frank was a world renowned musician, his mother Gail is a businesswoman who manages the Zappa family trust.
Ahmet had to deal with dyslexia as a child, and was unable to read or write till the age of 12. Eventually, he dropped out of school, since he found the whole exercise of education to be really stressful.
At the tender age of 14, Ahmet hosted the television show ‘2 Hip For TV’. Famous names from the musical world such as ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ and ‘Sparks’ appeared as guests on this show which was aired in 1988.
He made his acting debut in 1990 through the comedy drama ‘Pump up the Volume’, where Ahmet essayed the role of Jaime. The movie was not only a box-office disaster, but even failed to help Ahmet get any recognition for his acting abilities.
Ahmet first shot to limelight after appearing on the British television comedy show called ‘The Adam and Joe Show’ during the late 1990’s. He was seen in the ‘Vinyl Justice’ segment of this popular television show.
In 1998, Ahmet Zappa was seen in the movie ‘Children of The Corn V’. He played the role of Lazlo in this horror flick.
Ahmet next acted in the American comedy film ‘Ready to Rumble’. This 2000 flick saw him appear in a blink and miss role of a ‘Cashier’.
During the years 2001–2002, Ahmet hosted the Robot Combat show called ‘Robotica’, along with Tanika Ray and Taniya Memme. The show ran a total of 3 seasons, and was aired on TLC, a subsidiary of the Discovery Channel.
The year 2006 revealed Ahmet’s writing skills to the world. His debut novel ‘The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless’ was released. The movie adaptation rights of this novel have been apparently bought by Hollywood giants ‘Disney’ and ‘Bruckheimer Films’.
Though Ahmet had appeared in more than a dozen movies, he is widely recognised as a writer. Most importantly for his book ‘The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless’. This horror fantasy tale which was mainly targeted at children, won great acclaim from children and critics alike. Other than being a story which kept most readers hooked, the book was also praised for its illustrations.
