Adam Patrick DeVine was born on November 7, 1983, in Waterloo, Iowa, the USA, to Dennis and Penny DeVine. He attended Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated in 2002. Later, he attended Orange Coast College.
In June 1995, when Adam was an 11-year-old, he met with a severe road accident. While he was crossing the road with his bike in Omaha, he was hit by a 42 ton cement truck. He went under the rear wheels and slid 500 feet. Since his bike was on his right side, it took the full force of the impact and saved him from being killed instantly. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he went into a coma. Although he came out of the coma after two weeks, his legs and a lung were badly damaged. Over the course of several years, he had 26 surgeries, and at one time he was at the risk of having his legs amputated. He patiently went through all the surgeries and other treatments, and finally came out victorious.
When he rejoined school, he was bullied for the scars on his legs. However, he cracked jokes to divert the attention away from his scars. This made him realize that comedy not only had the ability to entertain people but could also bring them together.
A native of Iowa, Adam Patrick DeVine moved to Los Angeles and started working as a stand-up comedian. In 2006, he, along with his friends Blake Anderson, Anders Holm and Kyle Newacheck formed a sketch-comedy group called Mail Order Comedy. The group toured several places to perform, but they found greater success on YouTube and MySpace. The group also released a music video titled ‘Wizards Never Die’ in April 2008. As the Wizards, they released a music album called ‘Purple Magic’ on April 1, 2009, which contained 14 tracks.
Simultaneously, Adam played some small roles in ‘Mama's Boy’ in 2007, ‘National Lampoon's 301: The Legend of Awesomest Maximus’ in 2009, and American cable and satellite television channel Comedy Central’s ‘Workaholics’ in 2011. Blake, Anders, and Kyle also starred in ‘Workaholics’, and all the members of the group were credited as the series creators and executive producers as well. In the same year, he was also featured in an episode of ‘Traffic Light’ on Fox channel.
In 2012, he appeared as Bumper Allen in the musical comedy film ‘Pitch Perfect’. He reprised the character in the 2015 film sequel ‘Pitch Perfect 2’. In 2013, he portrayed William Winger, Jr. in ‘Community’. He also appeared in one episode of ‘Arrested Development’.
He did the voiceover for the character of Pizza Steve in the animated series ‘Uncle Grandpa’, which aired on the Cartoon Network from September 2013. In the same year, he created and starred in the Comedy Central series, ‘Adam DeVine's House Party’. He played Andy in seasons 5, 6 and 7 of the sitcom ‘Modern Family’, aired on ABC network.
In 2016, he appeared in the comedy film ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’. In the same year, he bagged two leading roles. He did the lead role of Noah Ashby in the romantic comedy film ‘When We First Met’, which he also co-wrote. He was then cast in the lead role of a magician Andy Tuckerman in the Walt Disney film ‘Magic Camp’. The film will be released in 2019. In the near future, he will also be seen in the romantic comedy ‘Isn't It Romantic’.
