Carolla in his own words is an atheist.
Adam Carolla was born on May 27, 1964, in Los Angeles County, California. He was separated from his mother when he was very young.
He grew up into a funny guy. He listed his middle name as ‘Lakers’ in his driving license document as a joke even though he had no middle name given to him by his parents.
He was raised in the ‘North Hollywood’ neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he attended Colfax Elementary School, Walter Reed Junior High, and North Hollywood High School. He had to wait for some years for his high school diploma as he was due for a library fine.
To shift his focus away from a chaotic domestic life, Adam played ‘Pop Warner football’. In December 1981, he was named to the First Team Offensive Line, Central Valley League. This was one of the only eight leagues at the time in the LA City Section of the California Interscholastic Federation.
He briefly attended Los Angeles Valley College but later dropped out to pursue a series of jobs including those of a carpenter, boxing instructor, traffic school instructor and a carpet cleaner.
In 1994, after trying a series of jobs, Adam Carolla volunteered as a boxing trainer to prepare Jimmy Kimmel for a bout, which was being staged by KROQ-FM's morning radio program ‘Kevin and Bean’. This started a long-running friendship between him and Kimmel which later turned into a business partnership.
‘Kevin and Bean’ gave him the perfect start to his career as he caught the attention of Mark Itkin and signed to the William Morris Agency to co-host the radio call-in show ‘Loveline’. The show’s other hosts were physician Drew Pinsky, formally known as Dr. Drew and Riki Rachtman.
In 2005, Adam Carolla was signed for a new morning radio show on the Infinity Broadcasting network, titled ‘The Adam Carolla Show’. The show began in 2006 and was a huge hit. Later in 2009, actor Gerard Butler studied Carolla during the live filming of the show in a bid to portray the role of ‘Mike Chadway’ perfectly in the movie ‘The Ugly Truth’, allegedly based on Adam Carolla.
In early 2009, Carolla started ‘The Adam Carolla Podcast’ on his own website which eventually evolved into the ACE Broadcasting Network. The podcast was downloaded more than 250 thousand times in the opening 24 hours. The third installment of the podcast peaked at the number one on iTunes.
Adam Carolla did some television shows from 1999, but he never stayed long with any project. Most of the projects he did were with his long-term friend Jimmy Kimmel. He started with ‘The Man Show’, then worked with Jimmy Kimmel as a writer for his show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ He also appeared as a guest in some episodes.
He created the television show ‘Crank Yankers’ for Comedy Central along with Daniel Kellison. He also appeared in ‘Dancing with the Stars’, partnering Julianne Hough. Starting from 2009, he has done some very popular shows like ‘The Car Show’, ‘Catch a Contractor’ and ‘Adam Carolla and Friends Build Stuff Live’.
