HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is a nonprofit organization dedicated to applying scientific advances in genomics to improve health, agriculture, learning, and commercialization. HudsonAlpha researchers recently acquired the latest DNA sequencing technology, the PacBio Revio sequencing machine, which will enable them to create genomic data on a scale beyond anything previously possible. The new sequencer will support much of the Institute’s Genome Sequencing Center work on plant, animal, and human sequencing projects. The machine is expected to be operational in April and is anticipated to provide 15 times more data than its predecessor. The HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology has acquired a new PacBio Revio sequencing machine, making them some of the first researchers in the world to have access to the latest DNA sequencing technology. The new machine will allow the Institute to create genomic data on a scale beyond anything previously possible, supporting much of the Institute’s Genome Sequencing Center (GSC) work on plant, animal, and human sequencing projects. The new sequencer will enable researchers to find answers for children with undiagnosed disorders and expand the Institute’s ability to sequence and interpret plant genomes for food security, safety, and long-term sustainability. The machine is expected to be operational in April after undergoing a multi-week installation and validation process by GSC personnel. The Revio is expected to provide 15 times more data than its predecessor, the PacBio Sequel IIe, and uses fewer consumables and packaging. It also includes a simplified workflow designed to make it easier to use in a lab setting. Researchers at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology are excited to begin using the new machine to continue to learn about DNA and its power to help people, whether that is understanding the role of genetics in health or in producing food or biofuels.
