Tyson Venegas gets the first platinum ticket for season 21 – Hollywood Life 1

Happy 21st Birthday, american idol. The long-running singing competition kicks off season 21 with the first round of auditions. The first contestant of the new season turns 16 Madison Harbor.

Haven’s father is the lead singer of a Christian band. “She always wanted to be a musician. She always wanted this,” her father said. Haven sings her original song “Fifteen” while her dad plays guitar. “Your songwriting ability is amazing,” Lionel Richie said. Katy Perry tells Haven that “the vocal decisions you made were so on another level. And they are so you and genuine. Haven is the first Season 21 contestant to earn a Golden Ticket to Hollywood!

The next step is Lucia Love, a 28-year-old mother of two from Arkansas. She performs by Marvin Gaye “Heard It Through The Grapevine” for the judges. The judges love her voice, but Lionel wants her to remove all gimmicks from her performance. Lucy gets a second chance to prove herself and sings “A Song For You” by Donny Hathaway. Katy and Lionel are on their feet, Katy even wiping away a tear. Luke Bryan admits he had written her off, but Lucy “proved me wrong”. Lucy is on her knees as she gets a ticket to Hollywood.

Colin Stough has the “magic”

Colin Stough is a guy from a small town in Mississippi. The 18-year-old was raised by his mother for most of his life. He strives to get out of his small town and make something of himself. He impresses the judges with his rendition of “Simple Man” from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Luke states that Colin is “what american idol is about.” Katy says Colin has the “magical” stuff they’re looking for.

Colin gets a “yes” from all three judges. “This kid was born to be a star,” Katy says after Colin leaves the room. Outside, Colin bursts into tears after getting a golden ticket.

Lyrical Medeiros is the daughter of Glenn Medeiros, the 1980s singer hit “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You.” The Hawaii native performs a sweet rendition of Kelsea Ballerini’s “Love me as you mean.” Katy doesn’t want Lyric to be “cute and safe” with her performance. Lyric sings a second song: Carrie Underwood “Before he cheats.”

They stop Lyric during the performance. Katy gets up from her seat and “fights” Lyric to see if she can show some courage. There’s a voice out there, that’s for sure. But can she compete? Lionel thinks so and wants to see Lyric face “brawlers”. Luke doesn’t think she’s ready for the competition. Katy is the deciding vote. “There’s something inside me that makes me feel like I have to give it a chance,” she says. Lyric goes to Hollywood!

Zachary Smith is 19 and currently cooks at Bill’s Hamburgers in Amory, Mississippi. He stuns the judges with his rendition of “Hurts So Good” by John Mellencamp. Lionel likes Zachariah’s rasp and growl. Luke tells Zachariah to “burn the apron” because he’s destined for Hollywood. Zachariah easily gets a ticket to Hollywood.

Iam Tongi makes the judges cry

I am Tongi has one of the most moving auditions. His father passed away a few months ago, so he dedicates his magnificent rendition of “Monsters” by James Blunt to his father. Iam brings Luke and Lionel to tears and receives a standing ovation from all the judges. Katy tells Iam her voice is “so beautiful”. Luke adds, “You just did everything perfectly.” Lionel says: “History is one thing. Your delivery of your story was phenomenal. I get a “yes” from all the judges – he’s going to Hollywood!

After Katy dresses up as an extravagant Vegas showgirl, michelle williams enter the hearing room. The 21-year-old performs a dreamy rendition of “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars. Katy passes out in front of Michael and throws out names like Shawn Mendes And Harry Styles. “I think you are the top 10 materials. I think your voice is amazing,” Katy told Michael. Michael’s future looks very bright as he heads into Hollywood Week.

Megan Danielle steps in front of the judges afterwards. The waitress from Georgia turned to Christian music. She performs “You Say” from Lauren Daigle. Turns out Lauren has a show in Vegas and stops by american idol. She walks in during Megan’s performance and sings along with her. It’s a super sweet moment.

“What you have is real honest rawness,” Luke tells Megan. “It’s like unpolished diamonds passing away.” Katy follows up with, “You’ve got that belt in your voice. It’s so authentic. Megan gets a “yes” from each judge and a golden ticket.

Tyson Venegas gets the platinum ticket

Tyson Venegas is only 17 years old and traveled from Vancouver to compete on American idol. He had a language delay when he was younger and music helped develop his speech. Tyson is a huge Lional fan. Tyson transcends the audition room with his performance of “New York State of Mind.”

He receives a standing ovation from the judges. “It was amazing,” says Lionel. Tyson’s mother is brought in to hear the judges’ praise. “This performance was perfect,” adds Lionel. Luke tells Tyson he’s “exactly what we’re looking for, what we’re praying for.” The judges give Tyson the first platinum ticket of the season. That means he’ll get a full day of Hollywood week. Lionel admits he has never “seen anything so talented” since they arrived here.

Jack Nicora shows up with his bird named Mango. the 19-year-old is a big fan of doo wop music and sings “In The Still of the Night” by The Five Satins. As the judges sing, they don’t think Jack’s ready for american idol. Jack gets a “no” from all 3 judges.

The final performance of the night is Kya Monee’was by Willie Spence best friend. Season 19 runner-up Willie tragically died in a car crash in October 2022. Kya was Willie’s duet partner during Hollywood Week that season, and they forged a “very close friendship.” .

She reveals that 3 days before her death, Willie told her she had to go back to Idol and pursue his dream. “He was supposed to be here with me today,” Kya said. She decides to sing “I’m Here” by The Color Purple, a song she and Willie chose together.

Kya gets emotional during her performance and cries her heart out at the end. She receives a standing ovation from the judges. Lionel gets up and takes her in his arms. “That performance was so moving, so heartfelt, so divinely guided by the glorious name of our dear brother,” he says. Katy tells Kya that her performance was “on another level” and that she was “connected to pain”. Kya gets a golden ticket to Hollywood, and you know Willie is out there somewhere so proud that she’s still chasing her dream.
