Today wordle has puzzled players, so Newsweek offered five helpful tips to help steer them in the right direction. And for fans still unsure of the word when it comes to their last guess, the answer is provided at the end of the article.

The game asks users to solve the puzzle by guessing a mysterious five-letter word, in six tries or less.

The puzzle refreshes every day, with a new word to be solved from scratch. wordle tries to help users find the correct word by using a color-coding system; each correct letter in a guess turns green, or yellow if it’s in the word but is currently in the wrong place, or gray if it’s incorrect.

The origins of “Word”

Game inventor Josh Wardle, a software engineer, created the puzzle to play with his partner. He started working on it in 2013, but perfected the game during the COVID 19 lockdown, naming it with a riff on his own last name.

Wardle released the game to the public in October 2021 and it quickly became a global phenomenon, gaining over 45 million users after starting with just 90 active players.

He said he only wanted to offer one game per day because he’s always been “wary of apps that want to eat up all your time”.

Wardle sold his game to The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum in January 2022 and the puzzle moved to publication the following month. wordle has become so popular that it has inspired a number of other everyday games like the music game Heardleand math-based calculation Nerdle.

Newsweek has put together five clues to help players who are confused by wordle.

Each clue is more revealing than the last, so players should stop reading when they are sure they have guessed the correct answer.

Tip #1: No letters in today’s paper wordle appear twice.

Tip #2: There are two vowels.

Tip #3: The word begins with the letter S.

Tip #4: This wordle rhymes with the word “bet”.

Tip #5: Merriam-Webster defines the word as meaning “to excrete moisture in visible amounts…to work or exercise in such a way as to induce perspiration”.

The answer to today’s wordle is “SWEAT”.
