Seoul Fights Digital Sex Crimes with AI

The Seoul city government has launched an AI-based monitoring system to detect and prevent digital sex crimes, making it the first time AI technology is being used to combat such crimes in Korea. Developed by the Seoul Institute of Technology, the system analyzes acoustic, visual, and textual information using deep learning technology to track all sexually exploitative videos of a victim from social media in only three minutes. The system will help reduce trauma and stress for victims by replacing manual monitoring by people with a computer system. The digital sex crime center, launched a year ago, provides legal advice and psychotherapy to victims, and has helped 402 victims of digital sex crimes, with 57% being teenagers and those in their 20s. The center has deleted 3,003 videos during this period, with 54% involving children and adolescents.
