Raptors Rumors: Toronto Not Interested In Trading Mike Luciano’s Chris Boucher
The Toronto Raptors were widely expected to trade point guard Fred VanVleet to lean towards a more Scottie Barnes-oriented offense, but decided to turn down all offers from desperate teams and instead keep the All-Star point guard from Potential free agency.
VanVleet is widely expected to drop out in the final year of his contract to secure a nine-figure deal on his final big payday. VanVleet seems to think that getting a new agency is the best way to get as much money as possible.
VanVleet has officially joined Klutch Sports which will add even more interest to their upcoming negotiations. This agency is known for making huge deals for its clients as well as luring them to specific landing spots.
Both Nick Nurse and Gary Trent Jr. are Klutch guys, so there’s clearly a certain mutual respect between Klutch and Toronto. At the same time, it’s impossible to look at the multitude of free agents who have joined either the Lakers or a major market team of a similar ilk. Will VanVleet follow suit?

More Raptors news
- ESPN’s Dave McMenamin confirmed what many Raptors fans and NBA watchers already believed about Toronto’s reluctance to trade stars like VanVleet and OG Anunoby at the close. McMenamin said the Raptors “surprised” many people in the NBA by just grabbing Poeltl and keeping him moving.
- TrueHoop’s David Thorpe suggested that he would fire Nick Nurse if he had his brothers, even Floating Raptors assistant Earl Watson (who was an unsuccessful head coach in Phoenix) as a replacement. While the heat needs to be turned up on Nurse amid some bad vibes and bad records, a layoff would be a very sharp change.
Nick Nurse strikes me as someone who somehow needs to be fired but could very quickly become one of the best coaches in the NBA again.
The dressing room stuff in Toronto was so weird. It feels like there are some lessons to be learned there. https://t.co/0V4W6x1rtH

NBA News
- The Chicago Bulls appear poised to shut down former No. 2 overall winner Lonzo Ball for the remainder of the season. With knee injuries that have prevented him from playing this season and limited him to just 35 games since signing with the Bulls, there are serious doubts Ball will ever play in the NBA again at just 25 years old.
- 76ers two-way point guard Mac McClung stole the show at the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, hitting a perfect 50 and taking home some hardware at the end of the night. A team of Utah Jazz players prevailed in the Skills Challenge, while Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard won the three-point shootout.
