It looks like the aforementioned seasonal temperatures will take a pause next week as an ice storm could hit Mississauga, Brampton and much of southern Ontario as early as Wednesday.
There was plenty of sunshine last week and a high of 13C on Wednesday before cooling to -3C by Friday.
Today (02/19) it is mostly sunny and over the next few days the temperatures will gradually drop into the negative with wind speeds of up to 33/km.
As we roll into Monday, showers are expected with a mix of thunderstorms and possible sunny breaks.
The gloomy weather will continue with spells of snow Tuesday through Wednesday (February 22) where potential ice pellets are called for Thursday, pushing temperatures to -11C by evening.
According to The Weather Network on Thursday (February 23), the ice pellets could turn into a storm, causing dangerous driving conditions on freeways, streets, sidewalks and parking lots as the area becomes icy and slippery. If you are commuting, there may be delays in your travel time. It is recommended that you remain cautious and plan your trip accordingly.
Meteorologists say gusty winds from the northeast are a big problem because they’re known to cause power outages. A good idea is to have emergency supplies within reach and to have your phones, laptops and other devices charged in case you are among those affected by a power outage.
Environment Canada mentions that it is important to protect yourself from frostbite when temperatures reach -10C and below.
The most common areas for frostbite are hands, feet, nose and ears. When you go outdoors, don’t forget to cover your body with gloves, scarves and earmuffs.
By Friday (February 24) the chaos will subside with some cloud but the sun will briefly return throughout the day with a 30 percent chance of snow flurries.
