SINGAPORE – Singaporean actor Mark Lee has called out scammers for editing his face in pictures taken by criminals.
The 54-year-old posted a story on his Instagram page on Monday (February 20) in which he pointed out the unrealistically edited images.
Lee wrote in Mandarin: “Am I a wanted criminal around the world? Can you find an expert to edit your photos? People don’t believe that, do they?”
In the first picture, Lee appeared to be being escorted by FBI agents, and his headshot was out of proportion to his body. In the original image, American gangster Vincent Asaro was escorted by FBI agents in 2014.
The second picture shows Lee in a courtroom, captured by a camera. The original image was that of Bo Xilai, a former Chinese politician convicted of bribery and embezzlement in 2013.
The last photo shows Lee with police officers.
According to the captions, Lee was embroiled in “a scandal that shocked the world” as he was “not aware the camera was still recording.”
It was also suggested that the scandal had hit him so hard that it could lead to “the end of his career”.
Lee warns of scammers abusing his image
He urged his followers not to believe anything the scammers said or showed.
Lee wrote in Mandarin: “Please don’t believe them! I only have one (Instagram) account that is verified with a blue tick.
“Don’t believe in accounts that ask you to buy or invest. These scammers are everywhere so please be careful. If you see them, report and block (them) immediately.”
An actor and presenter, Lee has worked on the local entertainment scene for over two decades and has won awards including Best Comedy Actor at the Star Awards and Best Actor at the Singapore Film Fest.
