Zion Fozo, a first-year political science major at Chico State, is running for the position of College of Behavioral and Social Sciences senator in the upcoming Associated Students general election. Fozo plans to listen to students’ feedback and be their advocate both within the College and beyond. They will work with students to create a plan that addresses their concerns and prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusivity. Fozo also believes that the university has a moral obligation to support these values and plans to propose funding for programs that achieve this goal. Apart from their political interests, Fozo is also involved in the ceramics club and has previously served on the Student Learning Fee committee for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Fozo’s opponent in the election is Arely Saldana. Voting will begin on April 4 and end on April 5.

The student, who prefers the pronoun ‘they,’ has shown an interest in leadership and community engagement since their high school years when they served as a student body treasurer.
Fozo aims to involve more students in campus activities and make their voices heard through representation. In an interview, they stated, “I want to be a good advocate for students both within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, as well as beyond.” Fozo plans to work closely with students and listen to their feedback to create a plan that addresses their concerns.
The candidate believes that the university should prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusivity, and they plan to propose funding for programs that achieve this goal. Fozo shares a quote from Star Trek, “We’re not afraid of diversity. We don’t persecute it, we embrace it,” as their guiding principle towards a more inclusive university.
Apart from their political interests, Fozo is also involved in the ceramics club, where they create fun pieces for themselves and family. They have also served in the Student Learning Fee committee for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the past.
