UAE Minister Discusses Innovation and Tech Cooperation in Serbia 1

The UAE Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology visited Serbia to discuss cooperation in research and development, advanced technology, sustainability, food technology, and developing tools to finance research. Discussions also covered opportunities to strengthen the education system to provide students with practical skills to enhance their competitiveness in industry. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia aims to facilitate cooperation and investment to support mutual economic development and national competitiveness.

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology plays a significant role in the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative and is a key driver of the country’s COP28 agenda. It is responsible for policies, laws, and programs that enhance national added value, support entrepreneurship, create jobs, upskill national cadres, and raise the competitiveness of products manufactured in the UAE. The ministry strengthens the national industrial ecosystem by facilitating the establishment of industrial zones, promoting the adoption of advanced technologies, and enabling the growth of priority sectors as well as industries of the future.

During an official visit to the Republic of Serbia, Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and Serbia. The discussions mainly focused on research and development (R&D), advanced technology, sustainability, food technology, innovation, energy transition, and legislation to accelerate the growth of technology globally.

The minister also talked about the importance of advanced technology adoption in industry to boost competitiveness and the need to ensure legislation keeps up with rapid technological development. Furthermore, the officials explored opportunities to strengthen the education system and vocational schools to provide students with practical skills for industry jobs.

Her Excellency Al Amiri met with several officials in Belgrade, including the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, the Minister of Education, the Director of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, the President of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in the Republic of Serbia, and the Director of the Innovation Fund. Delegates also discussed funding opportunities in the field of research, development and innovation and explored ways to develop financing programs and tools for research to strengthen relations and knowledge exchange in the field of R&D.

The visit is in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia, which aims to facilitate cooperation and investment to support mutual economic development and national competitiveness.

Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, met with officials in Serbia to enhance cooperation in several sectors, including research and development (R&D), renewable and sustainable energy, food security, agricultural technology, and financing for each of these areas. The minister emphasized that these areas are critical to the UAE’s national vision for the future.

During her visit, Her Excellency Al Amiri discussed several Emirati initiatives, including the Technology Transformation Program and the Industrial Technological Transformation Index. She also discussed with officials the importance of advanced technology in developing various industries and the advancement of food technology.

Discussions with the Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation and the Director of the Innovation Fund covered cooperation in R&D, financing, commercialization, and developing financing tools. The officials also discussed pathways for the energy transition and keeping pace with legislation in light of the acceleration of technological development.

With Milica Djuric-Jovicic, Her Excellency Al Amiri discussed funding opportunities in the field of research, development, and innovation, as well as developing financing tools to support research. With Professor Vladimir Kostic, she discussed joint research in various priority areas.

The visit aligns with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Serbia, aiming to increase cooperation and investment. UAE-Serbian relations are entering a new phase of growth, with a joint endeavor to boost the industrial sector’s contribution to the UAE’s GDP and drive sustainable industrial development.
