KALIA Scheme: Empowering Farmers.

The Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme in Odisha, India, provides direct income support to small and marginal farmers, as well as landless agricultural laborer households. The scheme provides financial assistance for cultivation in each crop season and livelihood assistance in three installments. Beneficiaries can receive support for agricultural activities such as poultry farming and mushroom cultivation. The KALIA Scholarship supports the education of children of beneficiaries studying in government-run vocational and technical education institutions in the state. The government covers all educational expenses, including course and hostel fees. The scheme’s success is attributed to the state government’s use of technology to ensure smooth entitlement transfers to beneficiaries.

The KALIA scheme also provides livelihood assistance to landless agricultural households in three installments of Rs 10,000 each. This financial support helps to ensure that the beneficiaries are able to meet their daily needs and improve their standard of living.

The success of the KALIA scheme can be attributed to the state government’s use of technology. By leveraging technology, the government was able to ensure that entitlements were transferred smoothly to a large number of beneficiaries. This has had a positive impact on the lives of small and marginal farmers, as exemplified by the success stories of beneficiaries such as Gyanabrata Pradhan and Kiran Kumar Sahu.

Moreover, the KALIA Scholarship has enabled the children of KALIA beneficiaries to access quality education for professional/technical courses in the state. This has opened up opportunities for children like Kiran Kumar Sahu, who has been able to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor without worrying about the financial burden on his family.

The KALIA scheme’s main objective is to provide financial assistance for cultivation in each crop season to all eligible small and marginal farmers, sharecroppers of the state, and to provide livelihood assistance in three installments to landless agricultural households. The financial assistance provided for cultivation helps farmers purchase required inputs like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and labor, thereby increasing their crop yields and improving their income.

In conclusion, the KALIA scheme is a testament to the positive impact of technology in governance. By leveraging technology, the government has been able to reach a large number of beneficiaries and ensure that entitlements are transferred smoothly. This has had a positive impact on the lives of small and marginal farmers and has opened up opportunities for the children of KALIA beneficiaries to access quality education.

KALIA Scheme: Supporting Landless Agricultural Labour Households and Education of Beneficiaries’ Children

In addition to small and marginal farmers, the KALIA scheme provides support to landless agricultural labor households in Odisha. These households engaged in agricultural work for more than six months annually can receive financial assistance of Rs 12,500 in three phases to carry out agricultural and allied activities such as poultry farming, mushroom cultivation, fish farming, and more. This initiative primarily benefits the SC & ST population of the state.

The KALIA Scholarship is another initiative under the scheme that supports the education of beneficiaries’ children studying in government-run vocational and technical education institutions in the state. The government will cover all the educational expenses, including course fees and hostel fees. This program contributes to the social and economic development of small and marginal farmers and landless agricultural laborer households in Odisha.
