Fact-Check: Abia Lawmaker's Ethnicity

A recent PRNigeria fact-check reveals that Hon. Anthony Chinasa-Abiola, who won the election to represent Umuahia Central Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, is not a Yoruba man, despite claims made on social media and some blogs. Although much of his personal life is not publicly available, investigations by PRNigeria suggest that he is a politician from Abia state and a member of the Labour Party. Chinasa-Abiola left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Labour party, under which he contested and won the election. PRNigeria’s investigation concludes that the claim that he is a Yoruba man is false, and that he is in fact an Igbo man from Abia state who won the Umuahia Central Constituency seat under the Labour Party.

According to a recent fact-check conducted by PRNigeria, newly-elected lawmaker Hon. Anthony Chinasa-Abiola, who won the election to represent Umuahia Central Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, is not a Yoruba man, contrary to claims made on social media and some blogs. Although much of his personal life is not publicly available, investigations by PRNigeria suggest that he is a politician from Abia state and a member of the Labour Party.

Chinasa-Abiola was previously rumored to be a Yoruba man, but he himself has denied these claims. Speaking exclusively to TVC News, he described the rumors as a “mischief of the election season.” He explained that while his name contains the Yoruba name “Abiola,” it is simply a nickname and not an indication of his ethnic background. He clarified that he is a full-fledged Igbo man from Ibekwu, with both of his parents being Igbo.

Chinasa-Abiola left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Labour party, under which he contested and won the election. PRNigeria’s investigation concludes that the claim that he is a Yoruba man is false, and that he is in fact an Igbo man from Abia state who won the Umuahia Central Constituency seat under the Labour Party.
