Opposition Plans Strategy to Challenge Centre on Adani Row 1

Opposition parties, including the Congress, will meet to strategize their ongoing Parliament session. Rahul Gandhi sent a preliminary reply to Delhi Police, who visited him regarding his sexual assault remark made during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar. The Congress claims that the visit was a diversionary tactic from the Adani row, and they will continue to question the Centre on the matter. Kharge stated that the Congress will not stop questioning the government over the issue, despite disruptions by treasury benches and opposition members that halted parliamentary proceedings this week. The government has only two weeks to get the Union Budget for FY 2023-2024 passed in Parliament. As per norms, the budget needs to be cleared in both the Houses before the end of the financial year, i.e., before March 31, 2023. The Lok Sabha typically discusses and votes on demands for grants for critical ministries like Railways and Agriculture. Once these demands are voted on, outstanding demands for grants for other departments are put up for voting, whether discussed or not, as there is little time left.

Congress and Like-Minded Parties to Meet on Monday to Strategize Parliament Session

Opposition parties, including the Congress, will meet at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s office on Monday to discuss their strategy for the ongoing Parliament session. This move came after Delhi Police visited Rahul Gandhi’s residence on Sunday morning regarding his sexual assault remark made during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, to which he sent a preliminary reply. The Congress and other parties claim that the police’s action was just a diversionary tactic from the Adani row, and they will continue to question the Centre on the matter.

The opposition parties are urging for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the Hindenburg report on the Adani group. Kharge, however, stated that the Congress will not stop questioning the government over the issue, despite the disruptions by the treasury benches and opposition members, which led to a halt in parliamentary proceedings this week.

The Congress claimed that the police’s actions were “cheap theatrics” and demonstrate how the Prime Minister is unsettled by questions on Adani. They added that it’s not the police’s fault but their political masters’.
