The Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology (NiCFoST) has initiated a pilot survey of food facilities and business operations in Kano and Lagos states to regulate the training and practice of food science and technology profession in Nigeria, as mandated by a newly signed law agency operating under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. NiCFoST aims to strengthen business links, increase trust, and confidence in Nigerian foods for a better business atmosphere in the country. To sensitize stakeholders on the planned survey, a one-day stakeholders sensitization meeting was held in Kano. NiCFoST Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Veronica Nkechi Ezeh, stressed the need for education on the roles, responsibilities, and requirements for the agency to function effectively.
Nigeria: Pilot Survey of Food Business to be Conducted in Kano and Lagos
The Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology (NiCFoST) has begun the pilot survey of food facilities and business operations in Kano and Lagos states, respectively. The agency aims to regulate the training and practice of food science and technology profession in Nigeria, as mandated by a newly signed law agency operating under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
To sensitize stakeholders in Kano and Lagos on the planned survey, a one-day stakeholders sensitization meeting was held in Kano. At the meeting, Mrs Veronica Nkechi Ezeh, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NiCFoST, highlighted the need for education on the roles, responsibilities, and requirements for the agency to function effectively.
NiCFoST regional officer, Mr Bello Kabiru, represented Ezeh at the event. Meanwhile, Dr Chijioke Osoji, in his presentation titled ‘Digest of NiCFoST Collaboration with Stakeholders’, emphasized that the establishment of the council is taking the survey to strengthen business links and increase trust and confidence in Nigerian foods, thereby improving the business atmosphere in the country.
