NC State Senate's Latest Election Bills

As of March 12, Ballotpedia tracked four election-related bills in the North Carolina State Senate since the beginning of the year. One of these bills, NC S226, titled “Freedom to Vote,” was sponsored by the Democrats and was tracked by Ballotpedia from March 6 to March 12, 2023. Ballotpedia tracked a total of 659 Senate bills across the US as of March 12, with the most Senate bills tracked in New York State Senate with 120 bills and zero Senate bills in Louisiana, Massachusetts, and West Virginia. North Carolina is considered a divided government, with neither party holding trifecta control. In 2022, Ballotpedia tracked eight Senate bills related to election administration in North Carolina, of which two bills passed both chambers, and one was enacted into law. The North Carolina Senate is scheduled to be in session from January 11 to August 31 this year.

As of March 12, Ballotpedia has been tracking four election-related bills in the North Carolina State Senate since the beginning of 2023. One of these bills, NC S226, titled “Freedom to Vote,” was sponsored by the Democrats and was tracked by Ballotpedia from March 6 to March 12, 2023.

During the week of March 6-12, Ballotpedia tracked 27 Senate election-related bills across the United States, with a total of 659 Senate bills tracked nationally as of March 12. Notably, Ballotpedia has tracked the most Senate bills in New York State Senate with 120 bills and zero Senate bills in Louisiana, Massachusetts, and West Virginia.

Of the 356 Senate bills tracked in Democratic trifectas and the 230 Senate bills tracked in Republican trifectas, Ballotpedia has tracked 73 Senate bills in states where neither party holds trifecta control. North Carolina is considered a divided government, with neither party holding trifecta control.

In 2022, Ballotpedia tracked eight Senate bills related to election administration in North Carolina. Out of these eight, two bills passed both chambers, and one was enacted into law. The North Carolina Senate is scheduled to be in session from January 11 to August 31 this year.
