Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in India for a two-day visit to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and deliver a speech on Japan’s Indo-Pacific strategy and its new defense posture. Both prime ministers will also take a walk together at the Buddha Jayanti park in Delhi to visit the Bal Bodhi tree. The partnership between India and Japan has been elevated to a “Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” and both countries have been conducting regular yearly summits since 2006. Kishida will announce a new plan on Free and Open Indo-Pacific during his stay in India. The partnership between both countries ranges across various sectors, including defense and security, trade and investment, science and technology, education, healthcare, and critical and emerging technologies. This visit is expected to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries, and the meeting is significant as both New Delhi and Tokyo are holding the Presidencies of the G20 and G7, respectively.

During his visit, Kishida is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and deliver a speech on Japan’s Indo-Pacific strategy and its new defense posture. Both Prime Ministers will also take a walk together at the Buddha Jayanti park in Delhi to visit the Bal Bodhi tree, which has deep roots to Gautam Buddha’s time.
The relationship between India and Japan has been elevated to ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ in 2014, and both countries have been conducting regular yearly summits since 2006. The two leaders will discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest during their meeting. Kishida stated that he will announce a new plan on Free and Open Indo-Pacific during his stay in India. This plan will present concrete ideas about the future of FOIP at this historical turning point.
The partnership between both countries ranges across various sectors, including defense and security, trade and investment, science and technology, education, healthcare, and critical and emerging technologies.
