The French forward was reportedly a target for Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and more in January with an £8million price tag placed on his future before his contract expired.
Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has now admitted Thuram will leave once his contract ends after rejecting a renewal with the German club.
“With Marcus Thuram we stretched,” he told Sport1.
“We have to accept that these are the even bigger clubs that Marcus could go to. The fact that players are leaving us for free is not a positive situation and I cannot sugarcoat it.
Thuram, who played in the Qatar World Cup final for France, has scored 14 goals this season and is expected to attract interest from across the continent.
