LETTERS TO EDITORS: Decriminalization will not help people escape addiction 1

to the editor,

Subject: Decriminalization approach is something new, editorial, February 1st.

Amazing, isn’t it? To solve a serious problem, some people come up with the idea of safe injection sites and now want to go one step further to decriminalize possession of hard drugs? Now let me get this straight, when you help someone overcome their addiction, you don’t make it easier for them to get what they’re addicted to. It’s a lot of common sense, isn’t it? There is a saying, ‘By their fruits you shall know them.’

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Blaming doesn’t bring real change

to the editor,

Subject: It’s a “travesty” that downtown has gotten so scary, Letters, February 1st

Enough of smoke and mirrors, mumbo-jumbo and all the lip service of politicians.

Daily, hourly, we hear and see the good, law-abiding citizens being attacked, mugged, their homes broken into, and stabbed to death. Meanwhile, the BC government decides to open the floodgates and allow the mentally ill and drug addicts to use drugs.

We’ve stigmatized drinking and driving, smoking etc, but we say it’s okay to use illegal drugs. No it is not.

We are going backwards as a peaceful society. We see it every day on the news, average people getting hurt, killed, their businesses and homes broken into.

Stigmatize the use of illegal drugs and shame governments for decriminalizing them. It’s not okay and don’t let the non-profit supporters who make money from governments tell you otherwise.
