IN Hogwarts Legacy, the gear you wear plays a big part in determining the types of enemies you are able to defeat.
As it levels up, your HP, defensive, and offensive stats also increase.
Swapping out your current gear for better things you find along the way can work really well, but upgrading it can net you quick boosts.
Here’s everything you need to know about upgrading your gear in Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy: How to Use the Loom
As you progress through the main story, you will gain access to the loom.
This can be placed in the Room of Requirement, which you can do as soon as a button prompts you.
You’ll need to gather materials from beasts in order to upgrade and add traits to your gear, so be sure to keep your Vivarium full.
All the beasts available in Hogwarts Legacy are listed in our guide.
Hogwarts Legacy: How to upgrade your gear
By default, each type of gear will only increase one of your stats, but you can change this using your loom.
Gloves, scarves, and robes increase your offensive stats, while masks, hats, and outfits increase your defensive stats.
When you upgrade your gear at the Loom, it will also add a boost to the other stat.
For example, if you improve your gloves, you will receive a buff for your defense.
You can upgrade each piece of gear multiple times, but it will require more materials each time you do so.
However, it will also improve your stats by a greater amount. This means that upgraded gear can often be more powerful than the gear you find.
Hogwarts Legacy: How to Add Traits to Gear
Traits do not improve your stats, but rather add a special bonus to each piece of gear.
It could reduce the damage of a certain type of enemy or increase the damage of a certain type of spell.
Individually, they don’t provide much of a boost, but if all your gear has complementary stats, you’ll see a big difference.
Traits come in three tiers, and the rarity of the gear determines which tier can be applied:
- Commmon – No characters
- Rare – Tier 1 Traits
- Epic – Traits of level 2 or lower
- Legendary – Traits of level 3 or lower
Before you can apply a certain trait, you will need to discover it.
This can often be done by picking up new gear that comes with a trait already attached.
However, other traits can be discovered by completing the challenges presented to you in your field guide.
Once you’ve unlocked the traits you want, applying them involves going through the list and paying for the resources:
- Tier 1 feature – Puffskein fur
- Level 2 feature – Diricawl Feather
- Level 3 feature – Kneazle Fur
